I am a Cheung Kong chair professor with Zhejiang University, appointed by the Ministry of Education of China since 2001. I am directing the Center for Engineering and Scientific Computation, and serving as a deputy dean of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, both in Zhejiang University. I had been a Senior Research Scientist for Taitech, Inc., NASA Glenn Research Center (formerly Lewis Research Center), Cleveland, Ohio, from 1998 to 2002. Prior to moving to NASA, I had been a Senior Software Scientist with Analysis and Design Application Company (adapco), New York for two years; a Senior Research Assistant (Research Associate) with University of Wales Swansea, UK for six years.
I earned a BSc in Mathematics from Hangzhou University (China), a MSc(Eng) in Mechanics from Harbin Institute of Technology (China), and a PhD in Computational Modeling from University of Wales. Prior to joining UWS in 1989 under a joint doctorate program, I pursued doctorate study in Civil Engineering at Zhejiang University (China) for two and a half years.
I have been awarded the 2002 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, by the National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC). My research has spanned Computational Science and Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, and Nuclear Engineering, and Mechanics. I am the author or coauthor of over 100 papers, reports and book chapters. My current interests include High Performance Computing, Enabling Technology for Multidisciplinary Application Simulations, Computer Graphics and Its Applications, Computer-Aided Engineering, and Computational Mechanics. I am a member or senior member of the AIAA, the ASME, the IEEE, and the IEEE Computer Society, and the Association of Computing Machinery. I am on the editorial board of the Journal of Astronautics (in Chinese), the Communications in Computational Physics, and the Chinese Journal of Computational Mechanics, and a referee for such publications as the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering.
