Sponsored by Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Chinese Society of Computational Mechanics, and Japan Society for Computational Methods in Engineering, Organized by Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Beijing Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and Tsinghua University, ICOME & Trefftz/MFS 2015 Conference was successfully held in Hangzhou, October 11 - 13, 2015. More than 130 researchers and graduate students, from 13 countries and regions, attended the conference. There were 5 plenary lectures and totally 132 presentations in parallel sessions during the conference.
The conference consists of two joint conferences: The 5th Asia-Pacific International Conference on Computational Methods in Engineering in conjunction the 11th Chinese National Conference on Computational Methods in Engineering (ICOME2015); and the Joint International Conference on Trefftz Method VII and Method of Fundamental Solutions III (Trefftz/MFS2015). The ICOME2015 was chaired by Professor Zhenhan Yao, Tsinghua University, China, while Trefftz/MFS2015 was chaired by Professors Alex H. D. Cheng, University of Mississippi, USA, Wen Chen, Hohai University, China and C.S. Chen, University of Southern Mississippi, USA. The local organizing committee of the conference was led by Professor Yao Zheng, Zhejiang University, China.
Professor Jianhua Yan, Vice President of Zhejiang University, delivered a welcome speech during the opening ceremony, and Professor Yuanqiang Cai, President of Zhejiang University of Technology, attended the opening ceremony. Five well-known experts in the area of computational methods in engineering delivered plenary lectures. The 5 plenary lectures are namely "Recent Developments in the MFS and Future Challenges" by Prof. Andreas Karageorghis, University of Cyprus; "The Polynomial Trefftz Method for Solving Backward and Inverse Source Wave Problems" by Prof. Chein-Shan Liu, Taiwan University, China; "A New Type of High-Performance BEM and Local Stress Analysis of Real Beam, Plate and Shell Structures" by Prof. Zhenhan Yao, Tsinghua University, China; "Applications of FMBEM to Optical Problems Related to Metamaterials" by Prof. Naoshi Nishimura, Kyoto University, Japan; and "A Self-Regularized Method for Singular Systems in the BEM and the FEM" by Prof. Jeng-Tzong Chen, Taiwan Ocean University, China. There were seven specific fields covered by the parallel sessions: Boundary Element Method (BEM), Finite Element Method and other computational methods (FEM), Mesh-Free Method/Material Particles Method (MF/MPM), Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS), Radial Basis Function (RBF), Trefftz Method, and Finite Integration Method (FIM).
The conference also issued the 3rd Du Qing-Hua Medals and Awards of Computational Method in Engineering to: Prof. Xiaowei Gao, Dalian University of Technology, China; Prof. Chuanzeng Zhang, University of Siegen, Germany; Prof. Xiong Zhang, Tsinghua University, China; and Prof. Yao Zheng, Zhejiang University, China. The 3rd Du Qinghua Medals and Young Researcher Awards of Computational Method in Engineering were awarded to: Dr. Chia-Ming Fan, Taiwan Ocean University, China; Dr. Yan Gu, Qingdao University, China; Dr. De-An Hu, Hunan University, China; and Dr. Yonggang Zheng, Dalian University of Technology, China.
